ALE’s first satellite was successfully launched and completed its first communication with ground station
The space venture corporation ALE Co. Ltd., aiming to create the world’s first man made meteor via satellite technology, announced on January 18 the following updates regarding the launch of its first satellite into space.
Results of the Launch and Operation Status of the Satellite
On January 18, 2019, at 9:50(JST), ALE’s first satellite, mounted onto the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)’s Epsilon Rocket 4 as part of the Innovative Satellite Technology Demonstration Program, has successfully entered orbit.
The satellite has established contact with our ground station in Tohoku university.
Future Operation Plan for the Satellite
After the satellite enters orbit, it will perform a functionality check in orbit, and will start the de-orbiting mission approximately 1.5-2 months after the launch. This mission will lower the satellite’s altitude from 500km down to below 400km, and the satellite will be deploying the DOMR:De-Orbit Mechanism1 for this mission.
Development Status of the Second Satellite
ALE’s second satellite that will generate man made meteors is currently being developed. This satellite is estimated to be completed in around the Spring of 2019, and its launch is currently scheduled for around the summer of 2019.
